NetScanner
Introduction Features Protocols and Diagnostics <<Download>> NetScanner requires Sun Microsystems' JDK1.1 (or later) or JRE 1.1 (or later). NetScanner does not work with their older versions, and has not been tested with other vendors' JVMs.
By default, NetScanner expects a direct internet connection. In case your connection is via a proxy server, look for instructions in the README file of the download suite.
NetScanner has been tested on Solaris and Windows NT platforms.

- netscanner1_01.tar.gz [114kb]
- netscanner1_01.zip [114kb]
Unpacking the downloaded file creates a directory NetScanner that contains the following files:
- README: Read this for complete instructions.
- NetScanner.jar: You need not unpack this.
- NetScanner.cfg: The configuration file. Move this file to your home directory.
- NSErrors.txt: Contains a brief description of the diagnostic messages.
- NetScanner.cmd: [For OS/2 Users] Simple REXX script to execute NetScanner under OS/2 with JDK 1.1.4 or higher. Thanks to Alexander Hoff for his contribution. Contact him for comments or problems.
Follow the instructions in NetScanner.cfg for customization. If you are behind a firewall and your internet connection is via a proxy server, change the proxy server/port settings in this file before using NetScanner. Add NetScanner.jar to your Java CLASSPATH. Launch NetScanner with java NetScanner or jre NetScanner.
- Fails to parse unquotified links, as in
<a href=http://www.microsoft.com>Microsoft</a>.
A work-around: Always include the links in quotes (double or single), such as
<a href="http://www.microsoft.com">Microsoft</a>or
<a href='http://www.microsoft.com'>Microsoft</a>
- JDK1.2beta3 Solaris Users: Please note the following bugs with this JDK that effect the NetScanner.
- Iconification of NetScanner or the Console does not show-up the icon image.
- Links to non-existant files (bad file URLs) are incorrectly reported as existing. This bug has been reported to Sun.
Mar 07, 1998: Version 1.0 released. Apr 10, 1998: Added Alexander Hoff's script for OS/2. Apr 13, 1998: Fixed the following:
- Updated Table Widget bundled in the archive.
- When a document is checked, entering another URL in the combobox leaves NetScanner is an inconsistent state. This is fixed now.
No longer supported.
