Cycling Plan for 2009

by Subbu Allamaraju on February 8, 2009

This post is over a month late, but better late than never. Apart from regular training, here are some rides that I am planning to do this year.

Flying Wheels Summer Century – June 13, 2009: A 100 mile loop from the Marymoor Park Velodrome near Redmond. [Last year's ride log]

Bicycle Tour of Colorado (BTC) – June 21-27, 2009: I am very excited to be going back to Colorado to ride this year's BTC, which starts from Glenwood Springs and goes through Hotchkiss, Grand Junction, Montrose, Crested Butte, and Buena Vista. With six riding days, this year's tour is 513 miles long with over 45,000 ft of cumulative climb.

This route goes through three mountain passes, viz., McClure Pass (8,755ft), Cottonwood Pass (12,326 ft), and Independence Pass (12,095ft).

Seattle to Portland – July 11, 12, 2009: An almost flat 200 mile ride from Seattle to Portland, that I am planning to ride in two days. [Last year's ride logs - Day 1 and Day 2]

High Pass Challenge – Sep 13, 2009: This is a 114 mile long ride from Packwood, WA to the Windy Ridge and back, and involves nearly 7000ft of climb. The rolling hills near the Windy Ridge are tough! [Last year's ride log]

Time permitting, I would also like squeeze in a ride up the Washington Pass this year.

I know the training miles from now till June are going to be very very precious, and no matter how well I train, BTC is going to be tough.

Subbu;

I’m amazed you can find the time for the training, given all of the other things you appear to take an active role in. It’s an inspiration. I’m an architect at a publishing company and have been advocating REST. I often ponder your blog as a lash myself to the trainer. Can’t wait for the winter weather to break. Good luck with BTC!
